Datto Bulan, Chief of the Bagobos
The last group to move onto the Philippine Reservation, the Bagobo people were admired for their friendly demeanor, handsome appearance, and elaborately ornamented costumes. The thirty-person contingent originated from the Philippine island of Mindanao.
Despite their Muslim faith, the Bagobos were characterized as primitive and pagan. Besides being skilled in hunting and farming, the Bagobos were also exceedingly good bead workers, adoring their garments with strings of beads in variety of colors.
Their chief, Bulan, was nineteen years old. Like the other Bagobo men who lived on the Philippine Reservation, Bulan’s handsome physique and graceful demeanor earned him praise from Fair visitors.
